杏吧论坛 will celebrate Fasching
February 15th from 10:30 am to 1 pm
at St. Matthew鈥檚 Lutheran Church
3281 16th Street / Dolores
All students are invited to dress up in their costumes and to join us for this children鈥檚 celebration of dance, music, games and art-projects conducted in German.
Please be aware that Mercy will be closed on this day, February 15.
The 杏吧论坛 is providing a small brunch for all children. And yes…there will be Schokokuss!
What is Fasching ?
Fasching, Fastnacht, Fasnet, Karneval鈥搕he names differ in the various regions of Germany, but they all mean the same thing: the 鈥渇oolish鈥� late-winter days, dedicated to merry-making and fun.
Carnival is celebrated in many parts of the world. It combines the human desire to disguise with a number of old fertility rites and customs. The wild celebrations of the change of the seasons at the winter solstice were celebrated over many centuries and eventually relegated to the time between January 6th and Ash Wednesday. Thus the climax of Carnival is the last three days before Ash Wednesday.
